Student Pilot Canada

Welcome Women!

Walking into a flight school to start your dream can be a little intimidating if you are a woman.  Out of approx 18 students, I was the only female in my ground school class.  But women in aviation have a rich and storied history, and a strong network across Canada and around the world.  So, if you are a woman in need of some professional and/or moral support, or if you just want to learn more about the role women have played and continue to play in the "world above the world", check out any of the links below...

WAI - Women in Aviation International, and CWIA, the Canadian chapter.

Canadian 99s -- On November 2, 1929, a group of women pilots bonded together and formed a club.  There were 99 of them, hence the name, the 99s.   Amelia Earheart was their initial president, and many incredible women (such as Roberta Bondar and Janice Brown) continue to be a part of this group today.

"One of my favorite phobias is that girls, especially those whose tastes aren't routine,
often don't get a fair break... It has come down through the generations, an inheritance of
age-old customs which produced the corollary that women are bred to timidity."

(Amelia Earhart)

Violet the Pilot - Written by Canadian commercial pilot Bettina Jenkins Bathe, these picturebooks for children chronicle the adventures of a girl pilot who travels the world with her animal friends.

Robyn's Flying Start - this woman is AWESOME!!  Any self-respecting student pilot has used her site to study for the PSTAR, and if you take a moment to peruse a little, you'll disover she has a really fun sense of humour, too!
